During a visit to Corbin, Kentucky, on July 21, 2026, I stopped to photograph the former Louisville & Nashville (L&N) Railroad Depot. What started as a simple stop to capture the historic depot turned into a great railroad discovery.

Located in a city with a rich railroad heritage, the former L&N Depot serves as a reminder of the important role railroads played in the growth and development of Corbin. The depot was once part of the L&N Railroad’s extensive network that connected communities throughout the Southeast.

While visiting the depot, I was pleasantly surprised to find preserved railroad equipment on display nearby. The display includes L&N locomotive 2132, caboose 056, and a passenger coach, providing visitors with a chance to see historic railroad equipment up close. 101 North Depot Street
These preserved pieces offer a glimpse into the era when passenger trains, freight trains, and railroad employees were a daily part of life in Corbin. Displays like this help keep railroad history alive and provide railfans, historians, and visitors an opportunity to appreciate the equipment and people that helped build America’s railroad heritage.

This unexpected discovery was a highlight of the trip and a great example of why exploring historic railroad towns can lead to some memorable finds.
